About us: Forest Policy Laboratory
Graduate School of Agriculture, Hokkaido University, Japan.
In the Forest Policy Laboratory, we grasp the social and economic phenomena that arise between forests and human society, and conduct research into the policies related to forest use and conservation.
As the significance of forests continues to diversify, the related social and economic phenomena are also becoming more diverse, and our research subjects are becoming more diverse as well.
Specifically, the Forest Policy Studies Laboratory covers a wide range of subjects, from forest and forestry governance, timber production and specialty forest product (mushroom, etc.) production, recreation, biodiversity and ecosystem conservation, and wildlife management, and its scale ranges from rural areas, natural parks, and cities to national and global scales.
Since forest policy is an applied science, the research methods and analytical frameworks are based on basic sciences, primarily social sciences and humanities, such as economics, sociology, education, and law.
